Correio Sabiá's guidelines for the use of artificial intelligence

We believe that AI (artificial intelligence) should be used to facilitate journalistic work, not to produce it.

Amid the AI hype, both inside and outside journalism, we created this guide to clarify and make our understanding transparent.

This page may be constantly updated, as AI is a new resource requiring ongoing study and attention. The date of the last update is shown in the footer.

AI Usage (or Non-Usage) at Correio Sabiá

✅ We may use AI for:

  • Summarizing journalistic or scientific texts:
Example: Long texts, such as papers, often require summarization for quick delivery to readers. Extensive reports can also have summarized introductions to save time for those in a hurry.
  • Translating content into other languages.
  • Scanning for spelling and/or grammar errors without altering the original work.
  • Transcribing audio (mainly interviews):
Note: Journalists know that few tasks are more tedious than transcribing recorded interviews. AI automation can save journalists significant time for more important work.
  • Suggesting images related to spoken content in videos:
Example: When recording or uploading videos on some apps, the app suggests images to include in the video as illustrations of what is being said. This simplifies the process.
  • Supporting creative processes:
Example: AI helps scrutinize ideas and improve proposals. It can also provide reference materials. Using AI for this purpose makes human work more efficient.
  • Searching for and/or suggesting other perspectives:
Example: Submitting a text to AI to check if any side of the story was overlooked.
Example 2: When developing a topic, ask AI to list potential areas of expertise or specialists to consult. This helps make content more diverse.

🚫 We will never use AI for:

  • Producing complete texts, such as reports.
  • Generating images of people:
Note: An AI-generated image of a person will likely resemble a real individual, which we consider problematic.
  • Performing an entire human work cycle.
  • Publishing content—text, audio, or video—without human review.
